Day
6: Malmö sightseeing |
|
During June
to beginning of August, we have Malmö sightseeing. Sightseeing starts
with visit to the tallest building in Scandinavian the famous The
Turning Torso a marvel of modern architecture and residential
buildings. The equestrian statue of King Karl X Gustav, who took Skåne
from the Danes through the Roskilde Treaty of 1658, stands in the
midst of the largest square in Malmö. Stortorget became Malmö's new
marketplace and was the largest city square in Northern Europe for a
very long time. Kockska huset, one of the most well-preserved
16th century buildings in Malmö, is of red brick with a richly
ornamented stepped gable. The City Hall, finished in 1546, has
undergone major changes over the centuries. In the 1860s, Helgo
Zettervall redesigned the façade in the Dutch Renaissance style, much
of which remains today. The Residence, the pale stuccoed
building next to the City Hall, is now the home of the County
Governor. The present façade dating from the 1850s was built in 17th
century Renaissance style by one of the most prominent architects of
the day, F.W. Scholander. After a visit to the Malmö Slott,
Lilla Torget, you may also visit Folkets Park which was opened
in 1893 and has always been a popular park and entertainment venue for
the people of Malmö.

Day
7: Copenhagen sightseeing |
|
The
lovely city of Copenhagen, is the capital of Denmark. Copenhagen
got its name from the word
"köbenhavn", which means "Merchants harbour". It
is a captivating, friendly city where there is always something
wonderful around the next corner - to see, smell, taste, feel or
listen to. There are the royal castles, the parks, the squares and the
plazas, and not least, like a precious gem, Nyhavn, the New Harbour.
Discover the architecture and museums which are famous all over the
world. We start by visiting the Town Hall a good place to start
exploration in any direction. Noble statues stand at its entry, on its
roof and inside, where, among others, the writer Hans Christian
Andersen and the Nobel Prize-winning physicist Niels Bohr are honored.
We visit Jens Olsen's World Clock, with its exact calibration,
in the lower portion of the Town Hall Tower. Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek
Houses both a stunning classical collection and, somewhat
incongruously, an assemblage of Danish impressionist and
postimpressionist art. The building itself is a work of art and merits
a visit (the central palm garden with murmuring fountains was cleverly
designed to offer museum visitors a place to relax). We also visit Ronsenborg Palace and the Royal Reception Rooms and let's
not forget The Little Mermaid, inspired by Hans Christian Andersen's
fairytale. The statue of the "Little Mermaid" is a favourite
with most visitors.
